Last week, approximately 3,000 customers of the Bank of Cyprus (BoC) expressed their interest in benefiting from the Estia scheme, which provides assistance to socially unprotected segments of the population.
It is reported that in 2019 about EUR €33 million will be allocated from the budget to the ESTIA fund. For the final implementation of the scheme, the conclusion of an agreement between the government and the participating banks is needed.
More than 50% of BoC clients who received a letter with information about Estia are ready to submit an application for participation in the program. Also, a large number of people contacted the bank and requested information about the scheme.
The lender estimates that the number of borrowers who meet eligibility criteria will increase to 5,000.
