Status of UK citizens living in Cyprus will remain the same, regardless of Brexit

Last week, the UK triggered Article 50 of the EU’s Lisbon Treaty, to start the ball rolling with negotiations after 51.9% of the population voted to leave the EU. The UK will work closely with Cyprus and other EU member states to find the best solution for everyone, the British High Commissioner has said. The status of UK citizens living in Cyprus is not expected to change as it is founded on bilateral agreements the two countries signed prior to the island’s accession into the European Union. Additionally, any points that are not covered by treaties between Cyprus, the UK and the EU, will be covered by the World Trade Organisation’s agreements.
