Singapore Introduces New Work Pass to Attract Foreign Tech Talent

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced in his keynote speech at the Singapore Tech Forum 2020 last week that Singapore requires more technology talent and a newly announced work pass in order to help the country attract “highly accomplished” individuals in this field.

Mr Lee also announced the importance of tech related matters, especially the launch of the Tech.Pass, which was recently unveiled by the Economic Development Board; to be targeted to “the movers and shakers of the tech world in the city-state”.

The Government is also working on building up its own ICT engineering abilities through the Government Technology Agency of Singapore (the GovTech initiative), while developing the entire tech eco-system and digital industry.

Going beyond COVID-19, technology has become a command function to cope with the outbreak in a lot of Government activities, from healthcare infrastructure to public housing, PM Lee stated, adding: “Without technology, we will become stuck.”
