Russia: huge Russian investments in IndonesiaRussia and Indonesia have reached an agreement allowing Russian state owned companies to invest in Indonesia about US$6bn in Indonesia’s mining sector. Projects include a refinery to process bauxite in Borneo, an aluminium ore plant, and a railway on the island to transport coal and other mineral resources to a port. Russian companies will transfer some technology to Indonesia as Indonesia has banned the export of unprocessed mineral resources. This move from the Russian companies represents a bigger turn to Asia. Russia has a long time ambitions to play a bigger role in Asia. Some of Russians banks even have offices in Singapore and Singapore offshore companies are popular with Russian businessmen. Russia is actively selling arms to Malaysia and Indonesia.
