Photis Photiou, the Presidential Commissioner, has recently stated that with Turkey’s increasing aggressiveness against Cyprus, it is now seeking to put the entire island under Turkish control.
The Presidential Commissioner recently said that Turkey has been showing its intentions with regards to a solution to the Cyprus problem, at the funeral of Vassilis Yiannaka, who went missing after he was murdered in a mass execution during the 1974 Turkish invasion, and whose remains were found in Galatia village in 2017,
According to sources, Ankara is seeking for both the Greek Cypriot side of Cyprus to accept the situation in Cyprus regarding the invasion and the illegal occupation of the island but also to bring the island in its entirety under Turkish control.
Additionally, Photiou went on to say that Ankara’s provocations in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone make the resumption of the Cyprus talks seem inconceivable under the present circumstances.
In reference to missing persons, the Presidential Commissioner reiterated that excavations in the northern military zones are under control by the Turkish army and also that Turkey refuses to grant access to the Turkish army archives.
