UK: Managers will be criminally liable for the actions of their employees for encouraging tax evasion

By in

New legislation set to be implemented under the UK Criminal Finances Act 2017 will now make it a criminal offence for businesses that will now be held liable for any actions by employees who assist or encourage tax evasion on behalf of their clients or suppliers. The act is somewhat controversial as it renders companies liable even in instances where senior management were not involved or unaware of the actions of employees. The measures are expected to be implemented later this year in September and will apply to all UK and non-UK taxation.
