Germany: Step-by-Step Abolition of Sanctions Against Russia

By in

A German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations stands for the step-by-step lifting of sanctions against Russia, proposed by the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sigmar Gabriel, as the provisions of the Minsk agreements on the settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine are fulfilled. This was announced to journalists at a press conference in Berlin by the head of the Committee, Mr Wolfgang Buchele.

‘The fact that Russia should make efforts is unquestionable but Western Europe and Ukraine both must somehow move towards a political solution’ Buechel said.

He stressed that the US should not turn up the pressure by new restrictive measures because Europe is already suffering much from mutual sanctions.
