Former German chancellor Schroeder as the new Chairman of Russia’s Rosneft

Gerhard Schroeder, a Social Democratic politician who served as Chancellor of Germany from 1998 to 2005, has been elected as the new Chairman of Russia’s Rosneft, on Friday.
His election has given rise to widespread criticism, as Schroeder was among those who has passionately criticised and stood up against the imposition of westerns sanctions on Moscow over the Ukraine crisis.
Schroeder, after elected as Rosneft’s Chairman has declared that ‘‘he really does regret that there are sanctions’’.
Schroeder, serving as a chairman of Rosneft will definitely spark further criticism, especially across Germany’s politicians who support that Schroeder election will only strain the relations between German and Russia.
