The European Chemicals Agency (the ECHA) proposes to ban the use of microplastics. Microplastics are known to be used in the production of such products as cosmetics, detergents and agricultural fertilisers.
Last Friday, at a conference in Helsinki the ECHA delivered a report on how tiny pieces of plastics get into rivers and oceans, which greatly pollute the planet’s water resources. This fact is a growing concern among scientists as the microplastics can damage marine ecosystems.
After highlighting the problem of water pollution, the European Chemicals Agency insisted on banning the usage of products that contain plastics by 2020 to combat pollution.
