Cyprus: Tensions between the north & south reach stalemate as Akinci refuses to attend further meetings

The tense climate between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders shows no signs of improving after a meeting between the leaders deteriorated dramatically, resulting in the Turkish President’s official refusal to attend any further meetings with Greek Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades. The meeting, which was originally scheduled for this week, was cancelled after President Akinci refused to attend, informing the UN and thereby affectively stopping any further talks.

“I regret Mr Akinci’s decision to not attend the meeting and standby to resume a dialogue at any time.” Anastasiades later tweeted.
