Turkish and Greek counterparts had reached significant progress in the negotiations surrounding Cyprus’ reunification, until this Monday, the discussion process once again came to a deadlock. The parties returned back to Cyprus from Switzerland, where the last stage of negotiations took place. The turbulent issues were namely around the return of refugee Greek Cypriots back to the Turkish side; possession of the Cyprus coast line; as well as guaranteeing security and protection of Turkish Cypriots’ rights in Turkey.
The negotiations were initially planned to be completed before the end of 2016 to have Cyprus reunited by May, 2017. Whether the plan is still on track remains to be seen.
