The Cyprus government have released the official figures for residence certificates (yellow slip) applications since July 2016, when the UK voted to leave the EU. The departure has seen over 15,000 new British national applications have been filed.
The civil registry & migration department stressed that it was not known how many UK nationals applied because the country was leaving the EU or whether they did so because it is mandated by local laws (all EU nationals arriving on the island to work should apply for this within 3 months of arriving).
According to the department, the current government statistics for applications are as follows:
32,280 certificates are currently in force for UK nationals.
7,802 people applied for registration certificates.
6,939 applied for permanent residency or MEU3 certificate.
