Cyprus included for the first time in IMD global rankings, but with disappointing results

Cyprus was included for the first time in the global competitiveness rankings accumulated by IMD World Competitive Centre, and came in 37th place out of 63 jurisdictions for overall competitiveness in 2017. For digital technology competitiveness, Cyprus scored 73,756 points, ranking 54th just below Saudi Arabia. The reason for Cyprus’s low digital ranking is partly due to low evaluation of various aspects regarding the technological environment; its willingness to accept future technological developments and a lack of framework for enforcing contracts with broadband subscribers, the European Research Council stated.
