The discovery of commercial gas reserves in the territorial waters of Cyprus has led to a common interest between Greek and Turkish communities of Cyprus, who are pushing to unite. Transportation of gas from fields in the territorial waters of southern Cyprus, and the easiest way to transport it is through Turkey. And then there’s the north of Cyprus announcing the exploration of significant copper and some gold reserves around Lefka. Recall that during ancient centuries, Cyprus has been popular for exporting copper and as a result of that, the owl ‘copper’ got its name – the Kupros.
