Cyprus faces daily fine for failing to implement EU Directive into local laws

Cyprus should have implemented an EU Directive into local legislation by January 2017; as a result of the delay the island faces a daily fine of €7,000 until the article is passed according to EU standards. The Directive concerns out-of-court settlements (Article 39) and was the only article that had not been reordered to accommodate EU legislation. The article provides that all member states shall ensure effective complaint handling procedures for the out-of-court settlement of consumer disputes.
