On September 26th 2018, the Minister of Finance of Cyprus, Mr Harris Georgiades and the Deputy Minister of Commerce of China Fu Ziying held a meeting to discuss the development of trade and economic relations between these countries.

Georgiades stated that a number of actions were agreed upon including signing cooperation acts and discussing the elimination of double taxation. The most important was the question of holding an international conference in China in the first quarter of 2019, at which a plan for co-operation between countries in the field of trade and economy will be approved. Georgiades also noted that there had been some positive developments regarding relations between China and Cyprus. This is probably due to the fact that recently China, and in particular Chinese companies, have made considerable investments in the island’s economy.
