Agia Napa Mayor Speaks out Against New Reforms

By in

The mayor of Agia Napa has sent an official letter to the Union of Municipalities; the purpose of the appeal was to request an extraordinary meeting.

As it became known, Yiannis Karousos is against the government’s intention to dissolve a number of local authorities, which should happen in future as part of plans to reform the bankrupt sector.

In the letter addressed to the chairman of the Union of Municipalities, Mr. Karousos predicted that after the reforms, the municipalities would be divided into two camps: those that would benefit from the abolition of certain authorities because they would get complete control over the new organisations, and those that would be deprived of their powers.

In addition to Yiannis Karousos, several other mayors have opposed this plan, he expressed an opinion that the merger can be beneficial for certain municipalities’ leaders more than others.
