Wills & Estates: German Court Deals with Facebook Access Rights of the Deceased

In the 21st century, social media accounts are becoming more and more valuable, which has been made apparent by Germany’s Federal Constitutional Court, that has just passed access rights to the parents of a deceased 15-year olds Facebook account.

The court held that the daughters contract with the social media platform could effectively be passed down to her parents along with the rest of her estate, enabling her to investigate whether the girl’s death was an accident or a suicide.
