UK Promises to Run Campaign to Introduce Beneficial Registers

The British Minister for Commonwealth Affairs and the United Nations, Lord Ahmad, assured the British Overseas Territories of the necessity to create publicly accessible registers of beneficial ownership by 2023. During this time, the UK intends to conduct a campaign to have public registers accepted as a global standard.

Mr Ahmad told that a constitutional conflict between the British Overseas Territories and the UK is unlikely because the territories will not be put at a disadvantage although at the same time Cayman Islands Prime Minister Alden McLaughlin warned British politicians about ‘non-interference in matters that should be handled autonomously at the local level’.
