UK: Identity fraudsters are twice as likely to target Company Directors

By in

According to research by carried out by legal database Lexis Nexis and fraud prevention agency Cifas identity theft is twice as prevalent towards Company Directors as opposed to the rest of the general population. Since 2010, almost 19% of cases of UK identity fraud have been Company Directors, even though they make up only 8% of the population. A leading cause of this may be due to Directors’ personal information being available from the UK Companies House; with the risk being further increased by the introduction of the new Persons with Significant Control register and the proposed implementation of a new register of UK property Beneficial Owners.
