It is reported that the former co-owner and chairman of Promsvyazbank Dmitry Ananyev, wanted by the Russian authorities in connection with allegations of embezzlement of USD $1.6 billion, recently received a Cypriot passport under the Citizenship-for-investment programme.

This became known after the news portal crimerussia.com announced on Tuesday that Dmitry Ananyev was among those nine Russians who could be deprived of their Cypriot citizenship after the programme’s review last week.

However, according to the Cyprus Mail, Mr. Ananyev was not among those 26 persons whom the government decided to withdraw citizenship after the case of providing a Cypriot passport to the wanted Malaysian businessman and individuals associated with the authoritarian government of Cambodia.
