In Nicosia, Cypriots came out in protest, expressing their dissatisfaction with the increasing of property’s rental rate. Citizens of Cyprus urged the authorities to take measures that would provide the island’s population with decent housing.
Earlier, a similar demonstration took place in Limassol where tents for the homeless were placed on one of the city squares. It is worth noting that due to the new tariffs and inability to pay for housing, many people have been thrown out and evicted.
In 2017, property rental prices on the island increased by 13% and in Limassol – by 25%. The government decision on the next tariff increase by 15% raises the country to the same level as Amsterdam.
