In an attempt to encourage innovation and provide the groundwork for emerging technologies and ventures, the Singapore Info-communications Media Development Authority (the IMDA) will remove frequency fees for all future trials for the new fifth generation (5G) mobile network, the Minister for Communications announced this week. 5G is hoped to be released by 2020, and boasts wildly fast speeds compared to the current 4G mobile network; with download speeds anticipated to be anywhere from 1 to 10 Gigabits per second.
