Cyprus Rises 7 Places in Global Peace Index

According to the 11th edition of the Global Peace Index which was launched by the Institution for Economics and Peace, Cyprus now ranks 64th out of 163 independent countries and territories, when compared to the 2016 index.
This means that Cyprus rose 7 places in the peace list due to the report accumulating various data on the 23 quantitative and qualitative factors that the index uses to measure the state of peace.
The index also decided that Europe continues to be the most peaceful territory on the planet due to it hosting a total of 8 of the top 10 peaceful countries in the world.
On the other hand, The Global Peace Index concluded that Cyprus’ national cost of violence was USD $2.7 billion (EUR €2.26 billion).
Cyprus scored the lowest on fighting conflicts at 1.0, homicide rates, nuclear and heavy weapons capabilities and arms imports and exports, scoring 1.1 each.
