Over 30% of all EU citizenship acquirers in 2015 were Russian, according to Eurostat

Last week Eurostat released data to show that Cyprus approved citizenship to 3,322 people in the year 2015, of which 34% were holders of a Russian passport, 9% were from the UK and 8% were from Greece. Since 2010, over five million people have received EU nationality. Of the total number of people who acquired the citizenship of one of the EU Member States in 2015, 87% per cent were citizens from outside the EU.

However Russia doesn’t hold the largest record within Europe generally, according to Eurostat, the largest group acquiring EU citizenship in 2015 were citizens of Morocco.
