Malaysian traffic police asked for over 4,000 fines from Singapore motorists

Malaysian traffic police have been asking for payment for traffic fines from Singapore motorists in a figure which has been reported to be close to collecting 4,200 different instances in an operation that began last week.

Mostly the fines were for speeding offences and drivers had been summoned to court. Since 2010, more than 700,000 outstanding summonses were issued for traffic offences involving foreign motorists with almost 500,000 from Singapore, the report said. Singapore vehicles accounted for 36.5% of the total unsettled traffic disputes issued to non-Malaysians between 2000 to 2013, according to Malaysian police.
