The Chancellor in Germany, Angela Merkel, has recently stated that a February court ruling regarding German cities are allowed to ban the most polluting diesel vehicles from their streets was “very balanced”according to sources.

However, Merkel went on to add that diesel technology was required until greener alternatives are developed. Numerous cities in Germany exceed the limits set by the European Union concerning atmospheric nitrogen oxide which is known to cause respiratory diseases.

Merkel also stated that the automobile industry in Germany has a responsibility to resolve what it has neglected regarding software and meeting their commitments as it is apparent that numerous mistakes have been made.

The Chancellor has stated that she is against nationwide initiatives that are permitting cleaner diesel cars to continue to operate in cities which restrict their use. She also has stated that respective municipalities should find individual ways in order to reduce emissions.
