The Popularity of Northern Cyprus as a Tourist Destination is Declining

On September 24th, the newspaper Halkin Sesi published in the northern part of Cyprus reported an increase in the number of tourists among Greek Cypriots and tourists from Turkey. However, the influx of foreign nationals has generally declined.

During the summer months of 2018, it was recorded that only 63% of tourists occupied hotels, which is 9% lower than in the previous year.

The Minister of Tourism of Turkey justified this by saying that foreign tourists do not want to travel around Turkey. He also added that in future, the efforts will be made to stimulate the development of tourism in Northern Cyprus.

So, thanks to the ferry service hotels located in remote areas such as Volokida and Famagusta will become more accessible. The authorities also intend to modify the infrastructure of one of the regions in order to create an entertainment centre.
