Singapore Aims to be a Non-Smoking Country by 2020
More and more countries are struggling with smoking. Now Singapore has joined the ranks of active "fighters".
On October 31th, the Ministry of Health in Singapore stated that all tobacco products should be enclosed in standardised packaging, 75% of which should contain graphic warnings about the dangers of tobacco to the human body.
It should be expected that soon in Singapore absolutely all tobacco products including cigarettes, cigarillos, cigars, beedies (thin cigarettes wrapped in a leaf), and hoon (loose tobacco leaves) will be sold in simple government-approved packaging.
The Ministry intends to make the proposed amendments to existing legislation next year; if approved by members of the Parliament innovations will come into force in 2020.
