Singapore: Plans to Join China’s Belt and Road Initiative
Singapore is believed to be ready to join China with building the Belt and Road Initiative together.
The Minister for National Development and Second Minister of Finance, Lawrence Wong, has stated that Singapore views China’s Belt and Road strategy as possibly the world’s greatest program for regional collaboration and alliance.
The minister told the Singapore Regional Business Forum that China and Singapore have now agreed to continue in cooperation in 3 main areas for the creation of the Belt and Road. The areas include the financing of Belt and Road enterprises, the collaboration of businesses from both countries for carrying out projects in third countries and infrastructure connectivity.
Following this, both countries are now currently working on the development of the CCI Southern Transport Corridor. This, in turn, will connect Western China to Southeast Asia through Chongqing. Chongqing is a municipality in western China and Singapore and so, link the overland Silk Road Economic Belt with the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
