Singapore: New standard for flexible work arrangements
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has stated that a new tripartite standard to boost flexible work arrangements was launched by the Second Minister for Manpower Josephine Teo on the 6th of October. The new standard strives to ensure workers are more capable of benefitting from such arrangements
Mrs Teo has said that many workers do not want to stop working even though they have other responsibilities. Teo stated that employees would prefer to keep working and meet their responsibilities to their families at the same time, which would be doable with the introduction of the new flexible work arrangements.
The types of work plans consist of part-time work, telecommuting, job-sharing, shorter working week and staggered hours.
The Tripartite Standard on Flexible Work Arrangements consists of MOM, the Singapore National Employers Federation and the National Trades Union Congress.
250+ businesses have already signed up to the standard and at least 1 in 5 companies are local small- and medium-sized enterprises according to MOM. All together the companies employ 210,000 employees
