Russia: Orders out 60 U.S. Diplomats Over Spy Poisoning
According to the foreign ministry, Russia has demanded that 60 U.S. diplomats to leave by Thursday the 5th of April in retaliation against Washington. This is the result of Washington expelling a similar amount of Russian diplomats over the poisoning of a Russian spy in the United Kingdom.
Following this, the foreign ministry has stated that it affirmed persona non grata 58 diplomats in Moscow and two other general consulate officials in Yekaterinburg in the major row over the poisoning of Sergei Skripal, a former Russian double-agent, on Sunday the 4th of March.
Moreover, Russia has ordered the UK to make considerable new cuts at its diplomatic missions. According to sources, the UK has to cut 50+ technical and diplomatic staff at its Russian embassy and consulate within 4 weeks. The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, has stated that this action will lower staffing numbers to the same levels of the Russia’s missions in the UK.
