Lack of rain this winter will cause water shortage problems for Cypriots

Dams that supply water to residential houses in Cyprus are only at 15% capacity. If the upcoming winter doesn’t bring much rain, Cypriots will face water supply disruptions in the upcoming spring.

There are several desalinisation plants in Cyprus to extract and use sea water. However, maintenance costs are too high and most likely to be imposed on local residents, which nobody wants to do on the verge of the 2017 elections.
