Japanese food experts warn about the correlation between eating sushi & parasitic virus cases
A Singapore food safety expert warned against exaggeration however called for added caution, in light of warnings from Japanese authorities last week on increase in parasitic contagions caused by eating uncooked seafood such as sushi. The Japanese Ministry of Health shows an increase in patients being treated for infection by the Anisakis worm, from 4 reported cases in 2005 to 127 in 2016. Doctors in Portugal have explained the endemic linking the increase of Anisakis worm cases with the increasing popularity of sushi and sashimi in Western countries and Europe.
