High percentage of Cyprus' youth intends to leave the island in search of better career prospects

According to a survey directed by the Cyprus Institute of Statisticians released last week, 1 out of 4 residents between the ages of 18 to 28 expressed the desire to leave the island in search of better career prospects. The intention to emigrate was voiced most strongly (30%) in the 22 to 25 age group. The institute issued a statement calling the findings “extremely disappointing and disheartening for the future” as 26% of the most prosperous and thriving part of the population (the youth) are intending to leave the country.
