For 13 years Cyprus has paid €2.5 billion euros towards the EU budget
The Treasury of the Republic reports that has Cyprus transferred more than €2.5 billion euros to the European Union and received subsidies in the amount of €1.4 billion euros, as it became a member in 2004.
The above figures "do not include other grants paid directly to state corporations by the EU", including the Cyprus Organisation for Agricultural Payments (Capo), to the authority responsible for paying subsidies to farmers.
Since May 2004, Capo received a total of €803 million euros. During the same period, the government transferred €1.6 billion euros of its own resources on the basis of gross national income (GNI) to the EU and 519.6 million euros as a share of the EU in income from value added tax (VAT).
