According to financiers, a boom in the global art market has delivered some extremely lucrative returns in recent years, drawing new investment to the alternative asset and wealth collection, although art collectors warm that the market is often impervious, unregulated and sometimes extremely illiquid.

Prior to the global financial crisis, art was one of the top performing assets in the index, but growth slowed considerably over the past few years. However, confidence has returned to the art market last year and looks to be sticking around.
