EU rejects trade deal with Singapore over ratification requirements

The European high court ruled last week that a free trade agreement between the Singapore and the European Union will not be able to be fully ratified until all members of the EU send agreements in writing; in a decision that could hinder many other planned trade deals with Europe. The EU hopes to secure trade deals with Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Japan and Uruguay and crucially will also have to come to an agreement with the UK after its recent decision to leave. Singapore and the EC completed negotiations on a trade deal in October 2014.
