EU Authorities Approve Minimum Rights for Workers in the Gig Economy
The EU has agreed minimum rights for non-permanent or short-term workers in the gig economy. Now the employers are obliged to explain the requirements for working conditions on the first working day to all employees and probationary periods cannot exceed six months.
A law approved by EU ministers states that new rights apply to all persons who conclude an employment contract or have employment relationships as defined by law in each of the member states.
According to the case law of the European Court of Justice, an employee provides services for a certain time for and under the direction of another person and receives remuneration for it.
