Drug Raids Cost Chinese Gang Millions
U.S. prosecutors estimate that a gang based in China will lose millions of dollars in drug profits according to sources. The crime organisation is also set to lose a considerable amount of the capital invested in Northern California homes after the authorities conducted raids.
In addition, law enforcement agents are said to have seized approximately 100 houses they say were bought with money wired by the gang and used to illegally grow huge amounts of marijuana.
On Wednesday the 4th of April, authorities stated that the agents had confiscated an estimate of 61,000 plants and 440 pounds (200 kilograms) of processed pot, alongside 15 guns. They stated that the drugs were on going to be on route to Chicago, Atlanta and New York City.
The U.S. Department of Justice has called it one of the nation’s largest-ever residential forfeitures.
The drug raids come at the same time that California is focusing on creating the world’s largest legal marijuana market. The state are doing so amongst the uncertainty about whether the federal government will try to shut the market down.
