Cyprus Human Rights Committee: "More needs to be done to combat child abductions"
Not enough is being done to deal with the growing problem of children from multi-cultured parents being abducted and taken abroad, a report from the Cyprus Human Rights Committee has shown. Last year 29 children were illegally taken to Middle Eastern countries via crossing the border to northern Cyprus and onwards. Parents from mainly Arabic and gulf countries can break European Human Rights Laws as their corresponding legislation does not match, and therefore non-compliance is easy. The way forward in this situation is to bring all international human rights legislation inline so this type of child abduction can be punishable accordingly.
