Cyprus Has Become Popular Among Migrants From the Middle East
Over the past six months, the number of refugees in Cyprus has increased somewhat. According to the country's foreign minister, compared to last year, the number of asylum applications has increased by 55%.
Essentially, asylum seekers in Cyprus are mainly Syrians seeking international protection. Also amoung the groups seeking asylum are the citizens of Palestine, Libya and from African countries as well.
Migrants get to the island on ships from the shores of Syria and Lebanon. Those who have the opportunity travel by plane to the Erzhan airport located in the Turkish part of the Republic of Cyprus.
