Cyprus Missed the EU Environmental Directive Deadline: The Consequences
The EU may file a lawsuit to the European Court of Justice against the Government of Cyprus because of the island omission in taking appropriate actions to implement the EU Directive 92/43 / ECC relating to environmental goals. The claim will be filed if Cyprus does not take appropriate measures within the next two months to adopt the provisions of the Directive.
Cyprus goverment has already received two notifications and the consequences of the non-compliance with such requirements.from the European Commission on the need to introduce the following Directions into Cyprus legislation:
- The EU Habitats Directive.
- The EU Waste Directive.
It should to be reminded that if the government of the member countries does not comply with the requirements of the European Community legislation, the European Commission has the right to refer the case to the European Court, whose decision is binding for all the EU members.
