Cyprus comes in last on healthcare government expenditure in the EU
According to data recently published by Eurostat, Cyprus came in last out of all EU member states regarding figures related to government expenditure in the healthcare sector in 2015 and 8th out of 28 in education-related government expenditure.
Cyprus’ government spending on healthcare amounted to 2.5% of GDP, the least in the EU by far, and less than half of the spending average amongst other member states at 7.1% of its GDP.
This equates to €530 per citizen each year, leaving Cyprus in the bottom 10. According to the statistics, Latvia spent even less at €466 in the per capita category, around merely a quarter of the EU average of €2,075 per European inhabitant.
