Amid Air Berlin bankruptcy protection claim; critics blame harsh German regulations & tax rates
Following Shareholder Etihad Airways withdrawal of funding, Air Berlin, Germany's second-largest airline, has had to file for bankruptcy protection this month. Germany's tourism trade body released a statement declaring the losses were down to the high rate of German taxes and regulations, which have encouraged foreign airlines such as Etihad to take market share from German airlines; which have further contributed to the failure of Air Berlin.
