Amazon Severs Ties With Washington Lobbying Firms
According to Bloomberg, online retailer Amazon.com Inc has cut ties with the Washington lobbying firms Squire Patton Boggs and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.
This development took place approximately a week before Trump accused Amazon of not paying enough tax in a tweet on Thursday, insinuating that the firm was taking advantage of the U.S. postal system and therefore putting much smaller retailers out of business.
In their place, Amazon is said to have hired Josh Holly of Holly Strategies Inc and Paul Brathwaite of Federal Street Strategies LLC. Both new hires are said to have previously worked as outside lobbyists for Oracle Corp and Airbnb Inc according to sources.
Amazon.com is following passage of the tax overhaul bill in 2017 in the face of new obstacles in the Trump presidency. Furthermore, Trump aimed numerous tweets at the Chief Executive Officer of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, who is also the owner of the Washington Post, which has been criticial of the Trump administration.
