Europe’s national data-protection regulators have imposed fines of EUR €1,145 million under the GDPR regime since it came into force 2 years ago in May, 2018.
France, Germany and Austria top the rankings for the total value of GDPR fines imposed with just over EUR €52 million, EUR €23.5 million and EUR €17 million respectively, with the highest GDPR fine in the history of AML being the EUR €50 million imposed on Google by France.
Germany and the UK came in top of the charts for the number of data breaches notified to regulators with several hundred notifications each, namely:
The Netherlands: 41,646.
The UK: 23,180.
