France & US Increase Controls on Inbound Foreign Investment

Both France and the US have announced a series of stricter controls on inbound foreign investment. Earlier this month, the US Department of the Treasury employed new specialists to evaluate incoming foreign investment for national security concerns, establishing its jurisdiction over a foreign individual’s buying of certain property under the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS).

Coming into effect on the 1st of April 2020, France’s Decree No. 2019-1590 which was voted in back in December 31st at the very end of last year; the Decree offers additional sectors of activities that are caught under foreign investment prior to authorisation regulations.
