Dubai Launches First Driverless Taxi Service

By in

On October 14th a new unmanned taxi service was launched in Dubai. The service will be provided by Dubai’s road transport agency, which demonstrated its unmanned upgraded Mercedes Benz cars with a modern sensor system, cameras and LIDAR at GITEX exhibition. The cars are capable of picking up speeds of up to 20 miles per hour and have a seating capacity of four passengers.

At the moment the taxi service is working in test mode, which will last for 3 months. During this period, drivers will be sitting behind the wheels and will be checking the adjusted work of all the systems and identify any weaknesses and shortcomings; including the ability to transfer the car to manual control if necessary.
