Cyprus is proud to announce the signing of the defense agreement between the majority of EU countries – Pesco pact. President Nicos Anastasiades has described the agreement as the “shield” from the unexpected “outside interventions”.
Cyprus was one of the 23 EUR countries which signed Pesco, the agreement designed to start the continuous structured defense cooperation. Some European countries did not enter the agreement, those countries included Denmark, Ireland, Portugal, Malta and the UK, which is leaving the EU block.
European Commission has described Pesco as the “framework and process” within the EU that would allow to unite defense efforts and invest in joint projects to improve the situation with armed forces and enhance general operational readiness.
